Our story
Hey y'all! I'm Mindy, owner of Junk In Her Trunk. In 2014, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Four months after having my colon removed, I lost my corporate job and started painting furniture in my garage as therapy — and that's really where this company, and its name, came from.
Our process
Our cabinet painting process has been developed over years of work, and we think it gives the best look, feel, and durability. Every door and cabinet face is sanded with a light grit and treated with a liquid deglosser so the surface will accept paint properly.

Next comes a bonding primer that adheres to everything from wood to plastic to glass. On top of that we apply two to three coats of a low-VOC waterborne acrylic enamel, sprayed with an HVLP (high volume, low pressure) sprayer for an even finish with no brush marks or lines.
The paint matters. Think of it as a hybrid between an oil base and a latex: the strength and longevity of oil, with the cleanup of latex. It also has the finish built in, which leaves cabinets looking factory fresh. That's important, because a clear polyurethane top coat over painted cabinets can yellow over time. With the finish built in, your color stays as vibrant as the day it was done.
Most projects take about a week. We remove your doors and drawer fronts and take them to our warehouse for prep and painting. Then we come back to prep the kitchen, covering appliances and masking off the cabinets, and spray the frames in place. When the doors are finished we bring them back and reinstall.
